Founded in 1991, this small consulting firm was at the forefront of environmental engineering and promoting the concept of sustainability. Their professional staff of ecologists, earth scientists, engineers and landscape architects works as a team to provide interdisciplinary solutions for a variety projects including wetland & coastal restoration, watershed management and land development.
In 2006, the name “Bioengineering Group” had more of a medical devices connotation than environmental consulting. The goal was to convey “green” with sophistication and promote their ability to provide solutions for today’s most serious environmental challenges. Their new look and website had to be ready to help them win a $150 million contract for designing the flood protection for the Louisiana Gulf post Katrina from the Army Corps of Engineers. That gave us only 6 months to completely transform their corporate identity, logo and website.
First, we had to “brand” the company with a powerful logo and graphic type treatment. For the logo, we created an artistic image that symbolized using vegetation to handle water in urban settings. We suggested using the mission statement: Building Sustainable Communities on an Ecological Foundation’ for their tag line so there could be no mistake about their environmental orientation. Then we built their website, featuring a home page animation that started with global views and ended with microscopic images to bring the viewer “down to earth.” By using engaging animations and graphics throughout in contemporary autumn colors, the website took on an inviting, yet highly professional tone. To view the website, go to www.bioengineering.com.
We are very happy to report the Bioengineering Group (with Arcadis) was awarded that $150 million dollar contract, to date the largest contract ever for just design services.
